David Hockney Exhibition Set to Launch as Festival Countdown Event

(PRWEB) January 20, 2012

The first major exhibition of David Hockney’s landscape works will go on show at the Royal Academy of Arts this month as part of a countdown event for the London 2012 Festival.

David Hockney: A Bigger Picture will be on display from 21 January – 9 April 2012 and feature vivid paintings alongside related drawings and films.

The exhibition will take the visitor on a virtual journey through Hockney’s world, with highlights including three groups of new work dating from 2005, when Hockney returned to Bridlington.

Many of the paintings have been created specifically for this exhibition; and through a selection of works spanning fifty years, this new body of work will be placed in the context of Hockney’s extended exploration of and fascination with landscape.

‘Exceptional exhibition’

The London 2012 Festival will be a spectacular 12-week nation-wide celebration, bringing together leading artists from across the world with the best from the UK, from 21 June to 9 September 2012.

Ruth Mackenzie, Director of the Cultural Olympiad, said: ‘We are delighted that this exceptional exhibition of landscapes by one of Britain’s greatest artists will be a highlight countdown event for the London 2012 Festival this year’.

‘For many of us, David Hockney remains a favourite artist and his constant experimentation with new media including photography, computer technology and film is a continual fascination.’
