“Diabetes isn’t what defines me, but it helps explain me,” offers Keri Sparling on her hit blog “Six Until Me.” The blog, started in 2005, offers an authentic, fresh take on living with Type 1 diabetes while being a mother, wife, and woman. She writes about topics ranging from still-scary hypoglycemic events and worrying about the health of her daughter, to the more lighthearted cookie cravings, caffeine dependence, and toddler art projects. Sparling, who has received accolades for both her blog and speaking engagements, has lived with diabetes since the age of six and offers both a comical outlook and genuine guidance for others in the diabetes community. SixUntilMe.com won “Best Patient Blog” by Medgaget in 2008, as well as “Best Patient or Caregiver Blog” by Dose of Digital in 2010.
This year, sponsored by Animas, Kerri Sparling will appear as the Keynote Speaker at the Weekend for Women Conference in Los Angeles, California. Sparling has been called “captivating, genuinely hilarious, and a true inspiration” by a leader in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and has been applauded for her “energy and emotion” at speaking events by Jeff Hitchcock, Founder of Children with Diabetes. DiabetesSisters is thrilled to offer conference participants the chance to meet the award-winning blogger who grins through the tough times, and maintains her strong personality and sharp wit despite the burdens of the disease.
The conference, presented by DiabetesSisters, will occur from Friday, October 24th to Saturday, October 25th of this year, and will offer both educational and social opportunities for women living with diabetes and their friends and loved ones. Experts in the field of diabetes management, nutrition and exercise, and emotional well-being will speak on a range of topics including: parenting with diabetes, diabetes misconceptions, eating disorder recovery, and more. Attendees will also enjoy opportunities to meet and mingle with conference speakers and fellow participants, as well as engage in conversation via social media with attendees throughout the country. Kerri Sparling will speak regarding “Connecting with the Diabetes Online Community” on Friday at 4 pm, as well as about diabetes misconceptions and technology in breakout sessions on Saturday. Her keynote presentation, “Laughter is the Best Diabetes Medicine” will take place at the end of the Conference on Saturday afternoon, along with a recognition ceremony for all women with diabetes in attendance.
