New York, NY, October 30, 2014 –(PR.com)– Parents of Accelerated Learners, NYC and New York Family invite you to NYC’s first education technology event aimed at families.
The NYC Ed Tech Family Day A’Fair on Saturday, November 8th from 10 am to 3:30 pm.
This one day event held at NEST+m, a Citywide K-12 public school on Manhattan’s LES, is part carnival, part scavenger hunt, part education fair for parents and their children in kindergarten through 8th grade – offering a fun-filled, engaging opportunity to explore education technologies that support individualized learning and talent development at home.
Innovative learning tools for kids and parents will be on-hand including: the Parent Toolkit produced by NBC News Education Nation and sponsored by Pearson; Understood.org’s new parent portal for learning and attention related support; Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth’s Talent Search and new NYC-based programs for students and families; Amplify’s new kid-friendly Project Ed that challenges students to create short films that teach; The Flatiron School, flying drones overhead with coding language and so much more… Families and ed tech enthusiasts will experience demos of great educational apps by Everfi, Galxyz, Tinybop and “story2: enjoy samplings of local programs from 3D printer demos from MOMATH, Robofun, MakerState and miniPreneur; participate in student showcases by local schools, including BASIS Independent, NEST+M and others.
“Rarely have there been opportunities for the ‘other’ stakeholders – parents and students – to take part in the growing movement to transform education and explore new learning tools that benefit kids,” said PALNYC Executive Director and co-founder Angelique LeDoux. “We’re hoping to change that, with a bottoms-up approach that introduces families directly to the innovative technologies that are helping to individualize, differentiate and improve classroom and home-based learning.”
The NYC Ed Tech Family Day: A’Fair will include:
• It’s all Fun & Games: Educational too. A scavenger hunt that’s fun for the entire family and Ed Tech Bingo start the fun. Plus there’s multiplayer demos with multiple chances to win prizes- free and discounted app downloads,
Little Bits electronics and toys and games from Jade’s ToyBox.
• STEM, the Arts, Language & Literacy, Mind & Body Health and 21st Century Skills learning stations will allow your child an opportunity to explore his or her personal areas of talent, strength or interest.
• The 2014 Michael Perelstein Memorial Scholarship Fund’s Discover Your Passion Competition in partnership with School Search Solutions presents a showcase of their talented kid winners. Will your child be next?
• With a focus on families, The Ed Tech A’Fair allows parents with children in kindergarten through 8th grade an opportunity to explore with like-minded families and peers – innovative new tools and student projects that inspire.
“We have heard from so many parents that they are finding it difficult and overwhelming to sort through all the different options in educational technologies and apps that are now available,” said PALNYC co-founder Dr. Shamir Khan. “Through events like this, we’re hoping to help parents feel more confident in making informed choices.”
Tickets start at $10 for kids, $20 for parents, and financial assistance is offered to any families in need. It takes a village, and our Community Supporter ticket option and alliances with outreach organizations help offset the costs for families in need.
