About Edward Lear
Along with Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear is one of the most celebrated authors of Victorian-era poetry for children. The writer of such poems as ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ and ‘The Scroobious Pip,’ Lear began his artistic career as an ornithological illustrator. At age 19 he released a highly-regarded collection of parrott illustrations. He later spent much of his life traveling the world as a landscape painter. Today Lear is best remembered for his “nonsense” poetry and the accompanying illustrations.
