Lawrenceville-based First Computer Systems is ancient by dot-com standards. We asked founder Gus Sabbah about his company’s ups and downs, and how FCS has survived the economic downturn.

Tell us a little about First Computer Systems.

We specialize in custom-built systems and servers and showing customers how to take advantage of the existing technology. These products and services are offered through our retail locations in Morrow, Norcross, and Lawrenceville in Georgia, and also through the Internet, where customers can order any product on our Web site and have it shipped for free. First Computer Systems is a solution provider for small business.

First Computer Systems (FCS) started with a goal of how to provide and help small business take advantage of computers and compete with big business. I established it in 1989. With a good software and hardware foundation the company went off like a rocket in the computer industry. Today, FCS has 25 full time employees, and most of them hold a B.S. degree in computer science.

What sets you apart in this industry?

What sets FCS apart in this hard industry is the strong foundation of the company. This foundation is the people of FCS. They understand the technology and help customers to have the best of it without spending a lot of money.

How has the economic situation affected your business, and what have you done to cope?

The economic situation affected us as well as all business in the United States, but FCS took advantage of that and came out of it as a big winner. We did this by cutting costs wherever it was possible, retraining our staff to handle multiple functions in the company, offering better prices and more services, expanding our product line and service throughout the United States, and teaming up with major vendors (such as AMD) to provide the best performance systems at very low prices.

Who are your customers — individuals, small businesses?

No customer is too small or too big for us. Our customers could be anyone, such as individuals, government agencies, small businesses, schools, universities.

The tech support department in FCS has people trained and certified to provide the best services and build the next generation of computers. We have 10 certified engineers holding BS degrees in computer science or A+-certified or Microsoft-certified engineers.

What’s in the future for FCS?

Well, a computer company must have the best hardware and software in place to offer the best products and services to customers. With the help of a new product from Icode Inc. called Everest, First Computer Systems has the best online shop with multi-language support, where customers can customize their order online and order any products as well as other functions. Also, with this product FCS can track customer history, likes, and dislikes, and keep in touch with them at all times.

What sets you apart from your competition in this industry?

With that in mind, FCS does not built a computer only. It goes further than that; FCS can provide the hardware, software, training, networking and all office equipment, such as copy machines or fax machines. Providing these products is not enough. We try to make sure we’re helping customers and showing them how to take advantage of the new technology, how to cut costs, and how to make more money by using the best hardware and software.
