In these days of rampant Internet worms, criminal computer hackers and privacy stealing web sites, no Internet-connected computer should be without some form of protection from the dangers of the Internet.

RedCannon’s Fireball CyberProtection Suite (Windows, $49.95) steps up to the plate to take on the challenge of protecting your PC. The Fireball CyberProtection Suite combines the functions of a personal firewall, intrusion detection software, online privacy software, system security scanner, VPN software and parental control software into a single, well-integrated package. Best of all, this functionality comes at a fraction of the cost of buying individual programs to perform each function in the Fireball CyberProtection Suite.

Unlike many other personal firewall products that are, of necessity, highly simplified, Fireball provides the simplicity necessary for the average user, while at the same time allowing the flexibility demanded by more experienced and security conscious users.

Flexibility is one of the key traits of the Fireball suite. Each portion of the suite can be individually enabled and disabled and each suite member has a wide variety of options that can be configured and tuned to your exact specifications.

In order to help protect your configuration, all access to the Fireball console is password protected. Further, all Fireball configuration changes, attempted accesses and response actions taken by the members of the suite are logged so that you can see that Fireball is doing its job.

Fireball CyberProtection Suite is a solid security suite with a variety of features and a good interface. Fireball is both accessible enough for the novice computer user and yet still configurable enough for the expert computer user. Only a few stability issues experienced during testing prevent me from heartily recommending this software for all.
