GigaTux has improved its line up of Linux distributions by offering an upgrade to Linux Mint for automatic installs on any Linux VPS system. This has been confirmed as running in a very stable manner on GigaTux's Xen platform and represents the latest version of Linux Mint available. Deployments are automatically performed using the DTC control panel interface, with this release being created from scratch rather than being an upgraded version of Linux Mint 10 which GigaTux previously offered.
Linux Mint is designed for usability and ease of installation, and GigaTux is happy to contribute to this by allowing Linux Mint 13 (Maya) to be installed with the click of a button. Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu and GigaTux has chosen the MATE 1.2 desktop version over the Cinnamon desktop because of its maturity. It is easy, however, to switch to the Cinnamon desktop if required.
Linux Mint 13 (Maya) is immediately available for deployment on GigaTux's Linux hosting servers in the UK (London), USA (San Jose and Chicago) and Germany (Frankfurt). All servers run on Xen with hard disks in a RAID-10 configuration and two Intel Xeon CPUs each. Installing a remote access application (e.g. VNC) is trivial and allows users to make full use of the Linux Mint desktop.
