Summer vacation season is fast approaching, but your slide projector broke ten years ago and it’s sitting in your garage. Come on–it’s time you do something cool with your summer pictures, even if it means slide shows on a monitor instead of a wall.
SimpleImageX 3.3.5, by Ellipse Software can help put together that sleek slide show, and organize your images and movies. It saves everything in browsers with large picture thumbnails so you’ll always know which files to open. You can also assign each image a keyword so you’re not milling through handfuls of folders. SimpleImage costs $25 and requires OS X.
For that moment you wish you had a camera, but you do have a video camera, Evological Software introduces ImageDV, 1.2, a simple utility to extract digital images from DV video on FireWire DV cameras or from DV video clips. No image-editing column would be complete without mentioning iPhoto 2, Apple’s new OS X version for easy image manipulation. The free downloadable program is good for extracting images from your digital camera and cataloging them automatically. The program’s image-editing is somewhat limited, although blemishes can be eliminated with the Retouch brush.
