Marstel-Day Wins the Fredericksburg Regional Technology Council (FredTech) "Innovator of the Year" Award

Fredericksburg, VA (PRWEB) May 30, 2012

Marstel-Day wins the Fredericksburg Regional Technology Council (FredTech) “Innovator of the Year” Award for integrating Geographical Information Systems (GIS) into the decision-making process. The Fredericksburg Regional Technology Council, “FredTech,” an affiliate of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, supports, enhances, educates, and attracts technology businesses to the region.

The award is given to a person or company that has “developed an innovative process, product service, or program that enhances quality of life or greatly advances an existing area of technology,” according to the Fredericksburg Chamber.

“At Marstel-Day, we use GIS to visually communicate complex encroachment and sustainment challenges and the intersection between neighboring stakeholders,” Marstel-Day GIS Manager Chauncey Robbs said. “With the rapid evolution of technology and the growing demand for spatial information, geographical software applications will continue to raise awareness of its utility and educational value to academia, government and businesses.”

In its award application, Marstel-Day explained how it used GIS to enhance regional environmental stewardship, support information resource management and aid the decennial redistricting process.

The honor was one of three major awards bestowed at the FredTech Awards Banquet on May 22 to “recognize and honor individuals and organizations for their noteworthy contributions to the community involving achievements in entrepreneurship, innovation or application of technology,” according to the Fredericksburg Chamber.
