The area’s first ISP keeps growing.
Philadelphia’s original Internet service provider has proved it can weather the storm. While many large global ISPs were struggling to make it out of 2001 alive, Conshohocken-based Netaxs, a national tier-one network service provider, walked away with a whopping 350 percent increase in revenue. We recently spoke with CEO Jeffrey Pasquale about the company and its success over the last decade.
Tell us about Netaxs.
Netaxs is a national tier-one network service provider and backbone provider specializing in high-speed Internet connectivity and colocation solutions. Our home office is located in Conshohocken, just outside Philadelphia. Adjacent to our complex, we have our core 33,000-square-foot server, colocation, data, and engineering facility, which houses our customers’ servers from all over the world. We have additional colocation facilities and backbone nodes in California, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Illinois.
Netaxs can service and support its customers throughout the United States, providing connectivity to Fortune 500 companies all the way down to small and medium-sized businesses.
What other types of services do you offer in addition to Internet access?
Next to private-line connectivity, colocation is our most popular service. Our colocation facilities provide bandwidth, speed, security, flexible space solutions, power, environmental control, support, and hardware solutions for our customers. These customers are typically looking for a cost-effective method of housing their Web servers and computer equipment. We provide all the colocation requirements to ensure that our customers can concentrate on their business and not have to worry about their equipment. In addition, Netaxs offers Web hosting, e-commerce, e-mail packages, and Usenet news solutions.
What are some of the ways you’ve promoted Netaxs Internet services in the Philadelphia community over the years?
Relationship marketing has been the key to the success of Netaxs and its owners since the beginning. Quality service and excellent customer service has generated a lot of business for the company through referrals. In addition, Netaxs is very active in the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce as well as other organizations such as the Eastern Technology Council. These organizations promote networking opportunities, which are great venues for the Netaxs sales team to meet and tell the Philadelphia region about our services.
You survived the tech fallout in ways that would make other tech companies jealous–with a 350 percent growth rate over the previous year. To what do you attribute this success?
Excellent service and a sound business plan brought Netaxs through the dot-com fallout by doing what we do best and not veering off-course. That’s not to say we were not affected. Netaxs lost some customers from dot-coms going out of business–but as they were going out of business, some of the same customers started new and better businesses and they all came back to Netaxs as their ISP.
What’s next for Netaxs? Anything exciting in the works?
Netaxs has been growing at a rapid pace for the past decade and is on the leading edge of Internet technology. As we continue to grow, we will constantly look for opportunities to offer our customers new and exciting products and services through partnerships and our own leading-edge technology development team.
In addition, Netaxs will be participating in the Greater Philadelphia Business Expo, which is the largest business-to-business trade show in the region. More than 400 exhibitors will showcase their products and services to approximately 5,000 business owners and executives walking the show floor. This will serve as a great opportunity for Netaxs to continue to introduce our services to the entire Philadelphia business community.
