Alameda company leads in voice-over DSL.
As more and more companies evolve into a scattering of telecommuting employees, broadband access and voice-over DSL are becoming a crucial element of setting up a business–and companies like Alameda-based Netopia are poised to reap the rewards. We recently spoke with company president and CEO Alan Lefkof about Netopia and its place in these growing markets.
What does Netopia do?
Netopia develops, markets, and supports broadband gateways and Web platform software. Our software is designed for small, medium, and distributed enterprises, as well as small offices, home offices and multi-PC households. Netopia’s targeted technology enables carriers and service providers to deliver bundled, value-added services for acquiring and retaining subscribers in large, fast-growing markets. These bundled service offerings often include DSL service bundled with backup, bonding, VPN, voice-over DSL, and eSite and eStore hosting.
Could you tell us about the series of products the company recently launched at Voice-Over DSL Europe?
Netopia introduced the 4753 SHDSL integrated access device at the VoDSL Europe conference in Paris, France. The 4753 SHDSL IAD is an extension of the Netopia IAD family of products carrying voice and data over DSL lines that connects to devices such as ISDN telephones and PABXs. The 4753 is ideal for deployment in small and medium enterprises by carriers across Europe.
What would you say makes Netopia unique among broadband developers?
Netopia is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the demand for broadband services through its portfolio of technology platforms that enable broadband connectivity, security, and service delivery. Netopia’s technology enables carrier and service provider partners to deliver bundled, value-added services to generate profitable revenue streams, and acquire or retain subscribers in large, fast-growing markets. These service offerings include managed DSL or other broadband connection services bundled with backup, bonding, firewall protection, VPN, voice-over DSL, Web site and online store hosting, and eCRM services.
Could you tell us a little bit about the Web platform services Netopia develops?
The Netopia Web platform application suite provides no-assembly-required Web sites and online stores with a variety of vertical-market content packages to suit almost every need, from franchisees to sole proprietors. The Netopia Web platform’s eSite and eStore solutions include display rooms, real-time credit-card transaction processing, online marketing tools, and much more.
The new eCare application is built on proved Timbuktu and netOctopus technology to deliver customer and device interaction services and application administration over the Internet. Through thin client/server architecture, eCare allows customer service personnel and technical support agents to instantly communicate and resolve problems with virtually any person or machine connected to the Internet.
Anything exciting in the works?
Netopia is leading the initiative in broadband services. For our carrier and service provider partners, establishing broadband connectivity for their customers is only the first step in enabling new and exciting broadband services such as virtual private networking, parental control, voice-over IP and DSL, and entertainment such as on-demand video. Our recent acquisition of Cayman Systems rounds out our portfolio of technology to enable us to bring to market not only a complete line of connectivity products but also exciting new broadband services delivered over Netopia broadband gateways.
