High-resolution magnification and image capture are available in a durable, compact Mighty Scope that combines portable convenience with a USB interface for electronic storage and editing. ANN ARBOR, MI – Aug. 18, 2009 — High-resolution magnification and image capture are available in a durable, compact Mighty Scope that combines portable convenience with a USB interface for electronic storage and editing.
The hand-held precision magnifier is like a mini-camera that zooms, providing illuminated, enlarged views of small collectibles, crystals, insects, plants, shells, coral and other natural wonders. Plugging the Mighty Scope into any laptop or desktop computer lets users manipulate images, incorporate them in presentations or catalogues, or share them.
Aven, Inc., an optical systems company in Ann Arbor, Mich., recently introduced the instrument.
Potential users include nature photographers, artists, graphic designers, curators, archivists and hobbyists. These are among applications:
• Cataloguing or marketing philatelic or numismatic collectibles.
• Illustrating scientific or educational presentations.
• Documenting artwork details for appraisal or restoration.
• Capturing enlarged micro-images for publication.
The focus range adjusts to any magnification from 10 times to 200 times, unlike earlier hand-held magnifiers with fixed settings or limited ranges. A brightness control wheel allows fingertip adjustments of illumination from six white LEDs to suit varied interior or exterior environments.
Active pixel sensor technology provides sharp images and accurate color reproduction.
A measurement tool is another practical feature.
Images, interval shots or video are captured by a 1.3-megapixel camera with a color CMOS sensor and Microsoft-compatible software.
A Microtouch shutter button eliminates the need to tap a computer key, whether Aven’s scope is hand-held or mounted on an optional stand. Ergonomic design assures comfortable use with either hand.
