Today, CDW LLC, a leading provider of technology solutions to business, government, education and healthcare, announced its new CDW Server Virtualization Preparedness Self-Assessment Tool, a self-administered questionnaire that helps small businesses individually determine their readiness to deploy and manage server virtualization.
In August, the CDW Small Business Server Virtualization Roadmap (“Roadmap”) found that 25 percent of small businesses have virtualized at least some of their servers to run multiple, independent, virtual operating systems on a single server. On average, small businesses that have virtualized say they are freeing 18 percent of their IT budget, or $19,400 per year, for other uses.
As an extension of the Roadmap adoption guide, the design of the self-assessment tool acknowledges that every small business is different in its requirements and composition. It helps small businesses determine their need and readiness to virtualize based on factors such as number of IT network users, number of servers, IT staff knowledge of virtualization and management understanding of virtualization benefits. Based on a user’s numeric score, CDW offers suggestions on how to move forward with server virtualization.
“In CDW’s Roadmap survey, two-thirds of small businesses that virtualized their server environments said it has significantly increased the ROI of their IT – but many small businesses wonder if server virtualization makes sense for their organization,” said Jill Billhorn, CDW vice president of small business sales. “The CDW self-assessment tool helps small businesses determine whether they are ready to virtualize and how to move forward. Combined with the tips and guidance in the Roadmap, it is a great first step toward building a plan for server virtualization.”
For more information, and to compare their experiences moving toward a virtualized environment with their peers across the U.S., IT professionals can download the CDW Small Business Server Virtualization Roadmap at www.cdw.com/sbservervirtualization. The roadmap reveals what small businesses that have and have not virtualized have achieved, as well as what held them back and the lessons they learned along the way.
