Conventional wisdom says that the slowing PC sales growth will only accelerate as we enter the post-PC era, eventually leading to the PC going the way of the teletype. The post-PC era is supposed to emphasize smaller devices–Palm tops, handsets, set tops, network computers and the like.
While many pundits take this eventuality as fact, it has been exposed in several places as hype. The reality is that, while some will choose other devices instead of PCs, the vast majority of us will continue to need PCs.
