Looking for an adventure over Memorial Day weekend? DreamAcres in Wykoff, Minnesota is kicking off its “Play in the Barn” summer series of performances on Friday, May 27, with actress Catherine Glynn’s original performance, “Miss Myrna Davenport’s Poetry in Motion.”

Throughout the summer months, The Dreamery Rural Arts Initiative coordinates many live performances and events that take place at DreamAcres.

The Dreamery has a mission to discover, harness, exercise, encourage and celebrate the creativity that is essential to rural life through the development and presentation of arts experiences in rural spaces in Fillmore County, Minnesota.

In addition to growing produce for its own various programs and events, DreamAcres grows food for the surrounding community. The farm operates a thirty member CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) business and also has sustainably grown and produced farm fare available for purchase on Friday evenings throughout the summer months.

This year, their performance series kicks off with actress Catherine Glynn.

Glynn, a native Minnesotan, holds two MFAs, one from the University of Texas in Austin and one from the University of Delaware’s Professional Theatre Training Program. She taught for five years at UT’s Theatre and Dance program. Catherine currently makes her living performing, writing and executive coaching.

As a small business owner and an independent contractor, Glynn teaches executive presence and communications skills at some of the world’s leading business schools. She and her husband, actor Jeremy van Meter, now reside in Lanesboro, Minn.

Her latest performance piece, “Miss Myrna Davenport’s Poetry in Motion,” is the story of a renegade substitute English teacher who uses any artistic means necessary to wake her students up.

Last summer, Glynn’s grant application caught the attention of the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, which supplied her with a generous Established Artist grant to create the piece from scratch. The world premiere took place in Lanesboro, MN, at Lanesboro Arts historical St. Mane Theatre in January 2016.

The show is directed by Lee Gundersheimer, the managing director of the Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, and stage managed by Thomas White of the Commonweal Theatre.

Not to be missed, “Miss Myrna Davenport’s Poetry in Motion” runs this Friday night, May 27, at DreamAcres. Organic stone fired pizzas are available from 5-8 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. Suggested ticket donations are $10 and the running time is approximately 75 minutes.
