The University of Geneva has released Amadeus II 3.2.2, which will let users (Power PC, Mac OS 8.6, CarbonLib 1.0.4 or later) record, process, or synthesize sounds on their Macs. Users can reduce background noise, generate precise sonograms and spectrum analyses, use filters, create echoes, and more. The application also includes a variety of wave forms that can be used to synthesize sounds. It has support for MP3, allows raw data importing and exporting, export of JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PNG, and other sonograms, supports a wider variety of sound-input devices, and more. The program is Mac OS X-compatible. The shareware version requires a $25 registration fee and can be downloaded at www.unige.ch/math/folks/hairer/martin/.
Nvidia has released an update for its GeForce graphics card. The latest version–2.1.1–installs graphics card firmware and Mac OS 9 extensions. You must have the older version to download the free update. Compatibility problems with newer versions of Nvidia system extensions have been cleared up, as well. The update can be downloaded from Nvidia’s site www.nvidia.com.
Pantone has released a beta version of its Pantone ColorWeb Pro that’s compatible with Mac OS X. ColorWeb Pro 2 Beta will work with Web-authoring programs and other applications, optimizing color for the Internet. The application lets you add colors to objects, backgrounds, and text. The beta version supports the 147 new colors of the Pantone Matching System. It’s $69.95 and can be purchased from Pantone’s Web site www.pantone.com.
Nova Development Corp. has released an update to its graphics application, Print Explosion. Print Explosion Deluxe now includes support for Mac OS X in addition to Mac OSes 7.6.1 through 9.1. The new release now offers 90,000 professional-quality graphics, 8,800 ready-made designs, 3,000 greeting cards, full support for EPS graphics, and the ability to drag and drop graphics from other applications. Users can personalize cards and flyers, use the application’s Quotation Library to search by word or author and add quotes to any creation, publish projects to HTML, and send e-mail greetings using the application’s e-mail client. Print Explosion Deluxe was designed exclusively for the Mac with the Aqua user interface in mind. It costs $59.95 and can be purchased from Nova’s site www.novadevelopment.com. Arcsoft has released a Mac OS X-compatible version of its commercial photo-editing program, PhotoStudio. The new version (X) allows the addition of up to 100 layers of special effects and enhancements to photo images and includes improved editing and retouching tools, multiple undo/redo transparency backgrounds, red-eye removal, stitch, and more. PhotoStudio lets users save images in Web-friendly format for easy upload to the Internet.
