The U.S. Department of State enlisted the San Francisco photographer, of Scott Chernis Photography to be the official photographer in 2011 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Week in Honolulu, Hawaii, held from Nov. 8 to 13, 2011. The task has further established Chernis, a professional photographer based in San Francisco, as a nationally recognized figure in event photography.
“Scott proved to be a valuable member of the APEC team,” said Medora Brown of the U.S. Department of State. “He captured every shot requested precisely and artfully, even when doing so required creative solutions. He worked efficiently, ensuring the pictures would remain relevant in a 24-hour news cycle.”
APEC is the foremost intercontinental economic organization in the Asia-Pacific region. It was founded in 1989 by 12 economies, including that of the U.S., to cultivate growth and prosperity for member countries through economic cooperation in trade and investments. The U.S. hosted the annual APEC meeting, which convenes 21 international economies to date, for the first time since 1993.
The San Francisco photographer, of Scott Chernis Photography covered the event, and the photographs have been widely used and distributed in media releases throughout the world. Chernis was also assigned as Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s personal photographer during her three-day participation in APEC, documenting her numerous meetings with dignitaries and world leaders, and her many speeches and appearances. Chernis also covered President Barack Obama’s two-day visit and was mainly responsible for providing the U.S. Government with images of the historical event for archive.
