Sequel Technology & IP Law Rolls Out First “Sequal Seminar”: Trade Secrets

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 21, 2011

Sequel Seminars will feature a real-world perspective and include practical tips on intellectual property and the Internet. The Sequel Seminars will be led by Sequel Founder and Managing Partner Melise R. Blakeslee, who will be joined by guest experts with special insight into each issue. Planned future Sequel Seminars include intellectual property issues associated with interactive marketing, domain name disputes, and an overview of computer forensics. Sequel plans to avoid the usual “talking head” format by making future seminars interactive, allowing clients to participate in real time and learn from one another. The firm will seek continuing legal education (CLE) approval for the seminars.

TRADE SECRETS SEMINAR

Every company possesses trade secrets, ranging from simple customer lists to secret product formulas. Trade secrets litigation is on the rise – both civil cases and criminal prosecution. In fact, the FBI has opened 56 trade secret-related cases within the last year. It is important for an in-house attorney to be able to identify and protect the company’s trade secrets. The Sequel Seminar on trade secrets examines the Uniform Trade Secrets Act, looks at the elements of a trade secret claim in practical terms, offers tips for identifying and protecting trade secrets, discusses the benefits of well-drafted employee agreements, and explores the realities of trade secret litigation. Seminar participants will also receive access to a trade secrets survey designed to assist them in identifying their companies’ trade secrets.

Teaming up with Blakeslee to teach the seminar is Michael Underhill, a partner at Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, one of the nation’s litigation powerhouses. Blakeslee and Underhill offer different perspectives on how to protect businesses from trade secret theft and defend against accusations of trade secret theft.
