Telstra and Samsung Electronics Australia today unveiled the GALAXY S2 4G – Australia’s second ultra-fast 4G smartphone which launches exclusively on the Telstra Mobile Network tomorrow.
Andrew Volard, Director, Telstra Mobile, said the nation’s second 4G smartphone would make it possible for even more Australians to enjoy ultra-fast 4G web speeds from the palms of their hands.
“The Samsung Galaxy S2 4G takes the design elements that have made Samsung Galaxy S2 one of Australia’s most popular smartphones and adds 2012’s must-have phone feature – ultra-fast 4G web connectivity. Customers in 4G coverage areas are going to love being able to load web pages up to five times faster than on 3G handsets. They’ll be able to send, stream and surf at speeds that will blow them away,” Mr Volard said.
“Consumers want access to meaningful content quickly and easily whether they are surfing the web, watching a movie or reading a magazine. The combination of Samsung’s intelligent innovation through to its sophisticated hardware and design, in conjunction with Telstra’s super-fast 4G network – makes the Samsung GALAXY S2 4G an ideal smartphone device for Australian consumers,” said Tyler McGee, Vice President Telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia.
GALAXY S2 4G Key Features
S2 4G features a larger WVGA (800×480) SuperAMOLED Plus screen measuring in at 4.5-inches. Compared with the Galaxy S2 it also has a more powerful 1.5GHz dual core processor onboard to support fast web browsing and easy switching between multiple apps, games and videos. It comes with an NFC chip built in for NFC tag reading.
Multimedia functions include an 8 megapixel camera and 1080p full HD video recording. The phone comes with 16GB of built-in memory, a large battery with a capacity of 1850mAh, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n support, and Bluetooth 3.0+HS. The Galaxy S2 4G has HD Voice support which enables crisper, clearer calls when chatting to other people with HD Voice compatible handsets on the Telstra Mobile Network.
4G LTE speeds + Australia’s fastest 3G speeds in selected areas
Customers using the Samsung GALAXY S2 4G in 4G coverage areas (capital city CBDs, associated airports and more than 80 regional and metropolitan locations) can access typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps and typical upload speeds from 1Mbps to 10Mbps. When outside 4G coverage areas the Samsung GALAXY S2 4G uses HSPA+ Dual Channel technology to serve up Australia’s fastest 3G speeds so customers can enjoy super-fast 3G download speeds ranging from 1.1Mbps-20Mbps in all capital CBDs and much of the associated metropolitan areas and many regional locations. Outside of these areas the device transitions to Telstra’s fastest available 3G speeds.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 4G is Telstra’s sixth 4G LTE product in a range that now spans smartphones, tablets and mobile broadband devices.
