Video Streaming Platform for Millennial Women Unveiled at “Ms. In The Biz” Wrap Party

Blue Fever, a video streaming platform touted “the Netflix for Millennial women,” announced their launch at this week’s wrap party for entertainment blog, “Ms. In The Biz.”

On December 5th, hundreds of female filmmakers gathered at Los Angeles’ new Phoenix Lounge to celebrate the contributions of “Ms. In The Biz,” a blog devoted to improving the careers of female entertainment professionals through collaboration. Founded by Helenna Santos, the website has archived more than 1800 articles, written by more than two-hundred female filmmakers over its three year publishing stint. The Los Angeles “wrap party” marked the end of the blog’s active publishing, though archived content will remain on the site as a resource for women in film.

Though the celebration marked a sort of swan song for “Ms. In The Biz,” the night promised further contributions to the future of entertainment. Blue Fever, the event’s sponsor, announced the launch of a new streaming platform devoted to housing the best videos, movies, and shows focused on women. To facilitate the announcement, co-founders of Blue Fever, Lauren Tracy and Greta McAnany were in attendance.

“79% of Hollywood TV shows have more male characters than female, and 85% of mainstream movies feature male protagonists,” said Tracy. “Now, more than ever, we need to come together and make sure we are being represented in the media the way we want to be,” continued McAnany.

Tracy and McAnany have assembled a team of creators and filmmakers that also see the disparity, and are breaking ceilings in the media, including former actor and rising director Rose McGowan, who appears in the platform’s promo video.

“Film sticks to people,” says McGowan. “Ideas about women, race, culture…what we say carries a lot of weight.”

The platform aspires to create unprecedented opportunities for women in film, by housing content that represents and resonates with women authentically, without waiting for the archaic Hollywood ideals to catch up.

“Everyone deserves their own hero shot,” says McGowan.

Blue Fever is officially scheduled to launch in 2017, but audiences are invited to watch sample content and sign up for exclusive access at http://www.bluefevr.com.
