Vietnamese-Visa.org is the first website with comprehensive and detailed listings of Vietnamese embassies and consulates world wide. 28 October of 2011 marks its 6th year in operation.
In the new age of internet, people have to deal with a surplus of information rather than a shortage. Information is usually scattered across the websites instead of being grouped under one domain, except for the all-know like Wikipedia. This was the premise based on which Vietnamese-Visa.org was created 6 years ago – to provide a one-stop gateway to all inquiries about Vietnam’s embassy and consulate.
Vietnamese-Visa.org was launched in a time when tourism started to boom in Vietnam. Unlike other countries in the region such as Thailand and Hong Kong, Vietnam requires most nationalities to possess a visa to enter the country. Vietnam embassies and consulates are thus important bridges between Vietnam and the world – which can issue travel documents for foreigners and provide contacts of potential business partners. Realizing that many embassies had yet to establish a website, Vietnamese-Visa.org lent a hand in the bridging process by keeping contacts information of Vietnam’s official representatives abroad updated.
Over the past 5 years in operation, the website database of Vietnam embassies and consulates have continually evolved to serve information seekers. Starting out with main countries – such as Vietnam embassies in the US, Singapore and in Australia. The website now expands to embrace over 80 countries worldwide. Included in the lists are consulate as close as Hong Kong and as far as Buenos Aires. Each consulate and embassy page contains not only address, phone number, email and official website of the government agent, but also a map showing driving direction.
Reflecting into the past years, the website creator Tony Luu mentions that his biggest dream is to make Vietnam a friendly destination in the eyes of foreign tourists and business dealers, so that more will come and give back to the country. “The first step to build this dream, is to provide as accurate information as possible, about the immigration process. One must be able to come, to be able to enjoy”. In its 6th year of operation, Vietnamese-visa.org is looking to expand the information load on the site, such as providing documents about customs and regulations, visa extensions and making other immigration related forms downloadable from the site.
