VisionSync Launches MotionCast App on the iPhone – Cast Local News

If you’d like to get local and community news, with personalized local news alerts, or join a community of citizen reporters with incentives to share revenues, then MotionCast might just be the app for you. The team behind some of the most popular mobile apps, including iMobile Care and TatTap, created MotionCast to provide location-aware news and a dynamic platform to cast local and community news, on your iPhone. The first release MotionCast lets users personalize hyper-local news feeds by category, location, most popular, breaking, hot and by Casters. The MotionCast Community lets Casters share information, rate casts, provide feedback, and collaborate on stories through a WikiNews module. MotionCast also provides cast mapping, sharing and commenting. “The idea behind MotionCast,” declared Steven Sikes, one of the founders and a former journalist and documentary filmmaker, ”was to create a user-friendly platform for citizen reporters to capture and transmit local news in real-time, while in motion, on the go, via their smartphones.” “We’ve already beta-tested MotionCast within communities in India and Denmark,” added Ravi Bathi, another founder and the chief software engineer, ”and we’ve begun focus group testing with university students in the United States. So far, the feedback has been quite positive.” MotionCast will have additional widgets and components, ADCAST for revenue sharing, REWARDCAST to provide MotionCasters with monetary incentives for outstanding casts, on its next release, as well as SUPPORTCAST, a feature to let sponsors, citizens, and users to support Casts that could have positive impacts within their communities. MotionCast recently launched a website at www.motioncast.com for anyone, including citizen reporters, bloggers, journalists and photographers, to join and submit casts (text, photos, and videos). There’s a YouTube video about the MotionCast offering here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6U9h0HE8Yc. “We’re holding a contest for Citizen Reporters to submit videos (maximum 1 minute),” declared Nikolas Gough, another founder, ”which reflect how one person or individuals have made significant impacts within their communities.” The person who submits the most compelling video will receive $1000 in cash, and $1000 will be donated in that individual’s name as a Supporter of The National Press Foundation at www.nationalpress.org. The four finalists will receive prizes of $250 each. More details about the MotionCast CommunityCast competition will appear on the MotionCast site www.motioncast.com in the coming weeks. The contest begins on March 30, and will conclude on May 30. The tagline for MotionCast is Cast Your World!
