Young reporters capture the Olympic Torch Relay Celebration in Leeds

(PRWEB) June 27, 2012

DigitalMe have launched LSLive 2012, a Leeds Inspired funded project, which will see young people from Leeds trained up as a reporting team to cover Olympic and Paralympic themed activity over the summer. The team will host their own playful reporting events around the city and cover Olympic and Paralympic celebrations from city-wide events right down to grass-roots activity happening in the streets and parks of Leeds.

The young people kicked off their summer of reporting by capturing the excitement and atmosphere as the Olympic Torch was officially welcomed to Leeds, at the Celebration event at Temple Newsam. The young reporters interviewed the band Picturebook, who have been touring the country with the torch and performing their version of Mark Ronson and Coca-Cola’s song for London 2012. The team also ventured into the crowd to capture what the Torch Celebration means to the people of Leeds and find out how they would make their run special if they had the chance to carry the Torch.

Becca, a student from Roundhay School has been involved in the LS Live project for over a year, so reporting at the Olympic Torch Relay has been just one of her many highlights and fantastic opportunities “It was a fabulous experience, Picture book were really easy to talk to and then they rocked out on stage! I couldn’t have hoped for a better day!”

As part of their Support to Reporter (S2R) project, DigitalMe are asking young people all over the UK to report on the 2012 Games, whether it’s about the Olympic Torch Relay, an athlete from their community or simply their thoughts on the London 2012 Games. The first 500 successful reports will receive 2012 Reporter medal!

S2R are pleased to have awarded their first 100 physical ‘2012 Reporter Medals’ to students around the UK. Reporters over 13 years old will also receive a ‘digital medal’ (using the new Open Badges system created by Mozilla), which can be displayed on the young person’s social networking profiles including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN.
